PG&E testing out a solar-powered billboard

Solarbillboard LiveScience is reporting on a new solar billboard that Pacific Gas and Electric has installed in San Francisco. Containing 20 solar panels, it apparently generates more electricity than it uses. (The text looks a bit Photoshopped on, but this is probably a mock-up.) PG&E claims this is a first for the U.S., though it’s been done before in Canada and Africa. And of course, a solar-powered billboard from BBDO in South Africa did win the outdoor Grand Prix at Cannes this year.

I appreciate the fact that PG&E is making a statement, and it's hard to dislike a clever idea, even if it wasn't the first of its kind.
