Art giving way to ads in Pittsburgh’s airport
The first ad controversy of 2008 has erupted in ... Pittsburgh! Go figure. Pittsburgh International Airport might remove a giant aluminum sculpture, titled “Silver Grid Wall” (shown here), from its main terminal and replace it with some advertising. The artist, Peter Calaboyias, says “if the sculpture is removed, [visitors] will be inundated with University of Pittsburgh Medical Center billboards. This will be their first impression of Pittsburgh.” At least you wouldn’t be greeted by huge strip-club messages before you even land. Pete should take a cue from Warhol and create something with artistic and commercial value to stretch out his 15 minutes of fame—for which, by the way, he has this controversy to thank.

Go Pittsburgh!
Does this mean that we get an even better airport (all of you big-town kids need to go through Pittsburgh airport just once to feel the burn of desire - ten minute from kerb to ramp.)
