Beware the giant, cozy marijuana cocoon

Pdfa GSD&M has created a couple of new spots for the Partnership for a Drug-Free America. One is pretty ordinary, showing a couple of teens who are burning their possessions, having apparently burned out themselves. The second one is a bit trippier, showing a teen building—and then encasing himself inside—a large and pretty snuggly-looking marijuana cocoon (with a street value off the charts). But the fun doesn’t last: He soon emerges from his fuzzy lair, looking at least a decade older, chubby and balding. Apparently, smoking pot can turn you into Kyle Gass, minus the talent.

This ad is offensive to millions of balding chubby men that never tried pot in their lives. What kind of bullshit is this? I met a major pothead in my life, and he wasn't fat. He did have yellow teeth however. This ad is also unrealistic in that it portrays pot smokers as losers, when the reality is that thousands of successful people in Hollywood and the media smoke pot.

And for the record, I don't smoke pot.

I agree with both commentators. 1) So, losers are chubby and bald? Whatever happened to the party line that, you know, it's illegal? A poorly thought-out ad. As blunt and brainless as they were, commercials showing teens in handcuffs or in prison were better. If you're trying to make an anti-marijuana commercial, you'd think an ad agency would up the stakes beyond implying, "you might gain weight by smoking marijuana."

2) Tenacious D is funny if you're 19.

3) I've SEEN the same jobless potheads this commercial is trying to target watch this commercial. They all agree that a giant weed cocoon would be the best thing that ever happened to them in their lives.
