Verizon FiOS ad couldn't be more awesome

Michael Bay might be a one-dimensional hack, but this Verizon FiOS spot shows that he has a sense of humor about it. He’s also got a decent grip on the word “awesome,” whose definition certainly includes being rich enough to blow up as much stuff as he does. And this fiber-optics deal does look pretty awesome. Perhaps it will extend to a Verizon wireless connection that doesn’t cut out every 15 minutes. Or at least the modem should explode every time it loses signal.

Didn't goodby just make this joke?

If this is what this site thinks is good, I'd hate to see what this site thinks is bad.

Uncle, why are you reading an ad blog? You seem to have wandered from your Victorian Literature discussion group. You should return to your Bronte sisters, before you grow a set. By the way, Emily was the best one no matter what you say.

And if that was too complex a slam. Yes, I was calling you a humorless wuss.

I loved it, but I only speak for 1/3rd of the Daves on AdFreak.

Hey that guy.

I see the humor in the ads. Or should I say, I've seen that shtick before. That's the point. A good creative would realize that and call it out. That's why creative reviews are better when they come from someone who's actually a creative in the business.

And as for Victorian Literature, it sounds like you're the expert here. I prefer more modern and original media with my books, mags, blogs and ads.

Hey. You know. I take it back. It's been a long day and I'm being an idiot. There's enough negativity out there already these days, so I feel bad for adding to it. It's been one of those weeks. Thanks.

Posted by: Uncle | Feb 17, 2008 2:22:04 AM

True, true. This schtick has been done before. But I grow tired of the it's been done before argument. I've been doing this for ten years, and in that little time, I've seen about a million ideas that were similar to this one or that one. Just give me enough time, and I can pretty much prove that any idea is not completely original. The goal is to try to be original as possible. But the things that make us laugh and cry are the shared understandings we have as a culture. You can't be completely original, because if you are, you're not going to find that emotional spot inside. And yeah, I do read a lot of Victorian literature.

You're right. And I agree that it's tough to find a truly original idea these days. That's the quest I guess. This ad isn't horrible or a complete rip-off or anything. It's more of a commentary on this site. They seem to be quick to slam on the little guys and on a lot of stuff that shouldn't be slammed. And very quick to praise stuff that isn't really that good.

They'd never dare speak badly about a big time creative shop's work since they're so closely tied in with Adweek. That would be bad for business. So it's seems pretty biased to me here. That's all. It's pretty funny when you think about it.

That's just one man's humble opinion. And I'll take it easy on the ad hating. Just trying to stick up for the little guys out there.

Uncle, I called Michael Bay a one-dimensional hack and alluded to this spot being little more than a series of explosions and the word "awesome." I don't know or care which agency made this ad, and I'm not sure where you got the idea that we're protecting anyone from our debilitating acid pens. We aren't, to the best of my knowledge, so cool your jets.

Man. I'm being negative again. Jets cooled. I think I just need to stop posting. Forever.
Thanks.

The first good Verizon ad I've ever seen.

Kudos.

The POOL blew up. Twice. Come on, peeps. That's some sweet ass shit.
