Saatchi monkeys around in Gainomax spots

Saatchi Stockholm is good at doing weird drink ads. Following its recent work for Jokk juices, the agency has released three humorous spots for Gainomax protein drinks. The ads encourage viewers to drink Gainomax after exercising instead of eating bananas—because Gainomax is more nutritious, but mostly because eating bananas screws the monkeys out of their favorite food. See two more spots after the jump, including a pretty good Ring parody.

S&S S = Army of the 12 Monkeys

This is why people thing monkey's could do our job. With work like this, I wouldn't argue.

First of all, why would a protein/carb replacement be positioned against bananas? That makes no sense. Bananas have almost no protein and only potassium which helps aid recovery. Second, what media slot would this need to run on to warrant a TV buy? Unless it's the world bodybuilding finals, probably less than 2% of viewers are potential protein buyers.

Lastly, it's just a pretty dumb concept that was probably produced as an award show hail-mary.

Dieters exercise to burn calories, and aren't interested in replacing them. Therefore this ad must be targeted at bodybuilders, who are interested in quick energy replacement and increased muscle mass. (And sadly, the ad misses the point that people on high protein diets should increase their potassium intake, which is easily done by eating more bananas and spinach). Meanwhile, I think the folks at SS got their hormones mixed up, because the bodybuilders I know aren't particularly nurturing individuals. This attempt at heart-tugging would work better for baby food: "Mothers, please don't feed my bananas to your children - monkeys have babies too!"

Hey guys, all business is local. In sweden the most common snacl after exercise is bananas. Therefore the strategy.

Yeah I'm going to have to chime in for the defense of the strategy, over here decent gyms give away free bananas for after-workout food, and every third male 18-30 actually works out (to build muscle/be fit not just lose weight/stay healthy). This warrants both a fairly cheap TV buy (national channels but on very specific showtimes) and the anti-banana strategy.
