BMW preps ramp to launch car to America

Bmwramp BMW has come up with an ambitious faux documentary for the 2009 BMW 1-Series that involves the construction, in the imaginary town of Oberpfaffelbachen, Germany, of a giant ramp that’s intended to literally launch the vehicle across the Atlantic Ocean to the U.S. (all the way to San Francisco, in fact). Lots of guys with giant teeth seem to have worked on the project, which was filmed by (faux) documentarian Jeff Schultz. The U.S. government would shoot the car out of the sky and ask question later, but that’s a separate issue. Jalopnik has posted the video here in three parts. It clocks in at some 35 minutes, which is about 34 minutes and 15 seconds longer than our favorite faux-construction viral.

Saw this on Jalopnik earlier in the week. Impressive. Jalopnik video player sucks though, might want to watch on ramp site. Kudos.

I was so ready to go off on a rant about short films sucking (ahem . . .Liberty Mutual) but this is pretty damn funny. Nice teeth.

Seriously. This is fantastic. Kudos to GSD&M.

How the hell did they sell that through? The teeth alone would scare away 99% of all clients. My congrats on that one, very funny stuff.

Anyone see a similarity in that ramp and the WWII German V1 & V2 launch ramps? Perhaps we should look into this more...

That reminds me of the old Audi commercial. It will be interesting.

Quite funny and creative. Are you sure this came out of GSD&M?

Posted by: Jr | Apr 8, 2008 11:31:55 PM

I stand corrected.

Finally watched this last night with a few beers in me. Laughed a lot. It's long but worth it.

Great idea, but the execution lacks a bit. It's just too, too long. Would have been much at fifteen minutes.

wow totally original idea. down to the faux wings on the bmw....wait a minute..that looks familiar. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctVkZbcwA1E
