Modernista! site: Web savvy or Web stunt?
|
Comments
I like the new modernista site as far as the execution goes. Its innovative and fresh. As an example of "this company gets it" however, you're right, it falls flat for exactly the reasons you mention. I'm not sure that makes the site a failure, just an example of "it could be better". This isn't to say that its over yet, however. Like the evolving web, if they actually start using their facebook pages, and adjust their implementation of the wiki page, I think it could evolve to that next level. Knowing how agencies operate, I doubt that this'll happen, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt while I wait and see.

I don't get it. I mean, I get what they were trying to execute, but I don't get anyone liking this. It is so fugly it is beyond belief. And its one eyesore that is near impossible to navigate. Their previous website was also a clunky disaster.
A good idea on the whiteboard can be a total disaster in online real estate.

In my opinion I think it’s pretty sad that they got the praise that they did. I think I was one out of a small handful that didn’t like it or maybe one of a few that didn’t care to upset people for not drinking the same kool-aid.

If I remember correctly (I might be wrong) years back they attempted (but failed) to get into the interactive side of the business and I believe around 2002 – 2003 they canned their interactive division or at least weren’t going to focus on it as much.
I would think over the years they would either ditch the idea of getting into a world they are not strong in and keep producing the work they do in the Print and TV arena. (Which by the way is very nice) or go about getting into the World Wide Web 2.0+ lol in a way that wouldn’t make some feel that it’s a big front that they really don’t “GET THE WEB” or like stated above a “STUNT”
They did get a lot of “BUZZ!” though which is good. But after all the hype would you even visit the site again?
Oh yeah… I’ve been on LinkedIn since 2003 does that mean I was ahead of the time or just someone using resources to network? Lol
Note: it’s an opinion so no hate mail please. HAHAHA
oh and i LOVE LOVE LOVE http://www.britnista.com/ I'm completely amused by it and think it's BRILLIANT! CLEVER and it's NOT LAZY! lol

It's an april fools randomizer. Also takes you to DARPA and FRANCE.
And FYI, we have been building both back and front end sites since 2001. Our interactive dept. Is the fastest growing one in the agency. I should know, I sign the checks. Ouch! No Lambo's for me!

The HUMMER.com site M! built has been in the top 5 for JD Power rankings for like 5 years.

Zeusjones.com did this idea first and did it much better. but didn't feel the need to PR it to prove how didgital they are.

With no disrespect to Zues Jones, until we put our "site" up, I was not aware of them or their approach. I suppose both sites are trying to make the same point, but I would submit that it's not just the tale, but he who tells it. I am not saying one is better than the other. That's up to you all.
And scouts honor, we have not spent one dime "PR,ing" this thing to prove how digital we are. We just made it and put it up.

And now, I present to you Britnista: http://britnista.com/

Brian to bad the Hummer site you're talking about years back was out sourced to identityone that was located in the same building. Now lance I hope you're not going to reply with "oh you're wrong since I write the checks" tisk tisk tisk.
What a stunt.

All this jealousy is so very unflattering, guys. Cheers to Modernista! and Lance for always being out front, taking the risk and pushing the rest of us. (Not to mention being above all this petty crap.) Thanks for the inspiration, man.
