RNC hot, bothered over DNC's McCain spot
The Republican National Committee wants CNN and MSNBC to pull this anti-John McCain ad produced by the Democratic National Committee. At one point, George W. Bush is shown with his arm around the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, but they never kiss, so there’s no problem there. The ad suggests McCain would keep troops in Iraq for 100 years. The RNC calls that a “gross distortion.” I agree. The average G.I.’s lifespan, especially considering enemy fire, isn’t nearly that long. DNC chief Howard Dean shrugs off the controversy as a Republican effort to “blow smoke.” I reiterate: Bush and McCain never kiss, nor are they seen smoking. So what’s the RNC upset about? Maybe those Miley Cyrus pics. |

Love the Obama ads the North Carolina RNC is running. We need more ad featuring the racist diatribe of "Rev" Wright and his punk Obama. Question when will we see Obama and Rev Wright kiss? Obama is his bitch right?

How about the racist diatribe of Minister Hagee, McCains favorite preacher.
He calls Catholics 'whores' and Muslims 'out to kill Americans by law'
Tell you what jdc
go back to your hole you rightwing nutcase asshat

Perhaps the RNC is upset because they actually believe that the ad is a misrepresentation of McCain's views.

Oy, while jdc's phrasing and terminology are certainly bordering on offensive, he/she has every right to bring Rev. Wright's far-more-offensive remarks into question.
Why do some think this issue should be off the table?

I love how the RNC is howling over this ad, when I can remember the moment that John McCain said the "100 years" comment on national television.

"Why do some think this issue should be off the table?"
Because Obama didn't say those things. A guy that Obama knows said it. Everyone has a crazy uncle, or person in their life that says dumb, stuff or does things that embarrass you. Just because you know them doesn't mean you condone it.
Obama has distanced himself from Wright's comments AGAIN and AGAIN.
On the other hand, McCain not only hasn't distanced himself from Hagee or Pat Robertson - preachers who have made comments that the residence of New Orleans were punished for being sinful (Hagee) and that God was punishing America for homosexuals (Robertson).
Now THOSE are controversial statements. And instead of McCain distancing himself from these men, he has ACTIVELY sought their endorsements, and stood at campaign events with them. Why? Because it's ok to be a crazy WHITE preacher, but a black preacher who's a little weird, and has been consistently rebuked? That's unforgiveable!
This is the same media in 2004 who allowed a multiple Purple Heart recipient and war hero to be smeared as unpatriotic while his opponent - a draft-dodger who went AWOL from his service in the National Guard was given a free ride. Thanks to that decision we allowed Bush 4 more years to break laws, destroy the economy and continue our foolish war in Iraq.
But of course, let's keep talking about Jeremiah Wright... very important stuff.

once again the Republicans get their already-too-tight pants in a twist over nothing. but then that's kind of what they do, isn't it.
mccain was foolish enough to say he was willing to commit us troops to iraq for 100 years. he said that. he's in favor of continuing the greatest and costliest strategic error in US military history while the country goes down the toilet economically.
that's his stance on the biggest single issue facing our country.
he thinks he can just get away with that?
obama has every right to point this out to voters. oh wait, that's right, the republican party lost all connection to reality years ago.
they should go back to raging about gays and then soliciting gay sex in airport bathrooms. what a joke.

Not to defend McCain (I disagree with lots of his views), but the "100 year" thing was in the context of "we've been in Germany and Japan for over 60 years, we could be in Iraq for 100."
Oh, and ChrisM, Obama doesn't just KNOW Rev. Wright. He's been Obama's close friend, pastor and advisor for 20-something years, and Barack attended his church the whole time.
Glad he finally repudiated him.

yes, but we are/were in japan and germany at the invitation of those nations.
they weren't shooting at us. and they aren't in the middle east - where the US supports both Israel and Saudi Arabia (how could that possibly go wrong?).
the bottom line here is that mccain says he supports the continuation of an imperialist misadventure that is sucking the life out of our country.
