Smoking causes odd deformities in friends

The New Mexico Department of Health's anti-teen-smoking campaign features the exceedingly basic theme “Bad things can happen.” In the ads, bad things do indeed happen, but they don’t make a lot of sense. In the spot above, one guy sprouts antlers, while another guy turns into a lion. In another spot, a third guy suddenly grows sausage-link arms. What’s more, it’s the smokers’ friends, not the smokers, who find themselves afflicted. None of which seems to offer a persuasive argument against lighting up.

Seriously? This commercial is ridiculously stupid. Did they let teen smokers create them?

I'm all for bizarro advertising (hello Starburst!), but you're right...this doesn't make much sense.

Yeah, this must be consumer-generated crap-tent.

If a New Mexico agency did it, it's the best I've seen out of NM yet! Well done!

In response to Hurley, if this was a New Mexico agency, then I will cry. I have seen much better stuff put out of this state.

This ad just proves that The State of New Mexico does not get it. Youth do not want to be treated like children and doing so only makes the divide worse.
