A few of Barack Obama's favorite things

Obama_2

If Barack Obama wins the election this fall, some consumer brands can bask in the glory of being presidential favorites. A piece this week in The New York Times offered a list of Obama’s “likes and dislikes.” Though no brand names appeared on the dislikes list (just generic items like mayonnaise and asparagus), the likes roster included Planters Trail Mix: Nuts, Seeds & Raisins, Dentyne Ice, Nicorette, MET-Rx chocolate roasted peanut protein bars, and “handmade milk chocolates from Fran’s Chocolates in Seattle.” A larger article, to which the likes-and-dislikes list was a brief sidebar, mentioned Black Forest Berry Honest Tea as another Obama favorite. On the whole, the faves list skews a bit more upscale than seems ideal for a candidate who’s trying to strengthen his appeal to blue-collar voters, so Obama may wish to keep some of these preferences under wraps until after Election Day.

"Obama may wish to keep some of these preferences under wraps until after Election Day."

Yes. God forbid that the average dumb American finds out that Obama is a smart, discriminating consumer who likes high-quality foods, or that he might even be cultured. That would make him (gasp) an elitist!

Because everyone knows Americans don't want smart, successful and competent. They want someone dumb, folksy and willing to pretend he's not a multi-millionaire by playing cowboy.

USA! USA! USA!

Oh, the horror!

You mean Obama isn't a NASCAR-lovin' redneck with an obese wife and four ugly kids? I'm just waiting for the day this country collapses under the weight of its own stupidity.

I don't expect to wait too long.

His food choices aside and I applaud the mans diet but I'd expect nothing less from a man of his education however on his list of dislikes you left out white folks. He doesnt care for whitey.

The only mistakes he has made are claiming a non-existent Uncle was one of the first liberators into Auschwitz and saying that he had campaigned in 57 states and was hoping to go to the 58th.
He could easily beat Dan Quayle in a spelling bee, can probably match George W. Bush in a cocaine line dance, and if he can get all those rich kids graduating from college into public service instead of using their knowledge to create mortgage loan-bundling derivatives, he's my man.

Whiteyforobama has no credibility.

Obama's uncle is VERY REAL. The only mistake was that he didn't liberate Auschwitz, His uncle was there at the liberation of Buchenwald. It's still a concentration camp, and his uncle was still a war hero. I think you owe us an apology.

You and the Republicans are grasping at straws trying to find any issue to smear Obama (pastors, drugs, lapel pins, etc) but the fact is that he is right on the war and wants to reverse the terrible mistakes of our current incompetent President.

Obama would be a fine President of a nice neutral country like Switzerland or Andorra.
The psychology behind bringing up the fact that his mother's father's brother was part of the liberation of Buchenwald is probably more interesting, though. It is that personal history narrative that makes things real for prancing politicians. I.e., "I know how bad the concentration camps were, how horrible the Nazis were because my uncle was there." It is genetic epistemology, I suppose. I don't know if the Republicans discovered the dueling Reverends; I thought the Clinton campaign discovered them. Or maybe it was Obama's campaign itself since they sent the priest friend of Minister Farrakhan to Iowa on their behalf and funneled a couple of hundred thou into his organization long before they excommunicated the guy from their website.
As for Iraq and being right on it, that is the best argument for his prescience and for his Presidency. We will find it easier, thought, to get out Iraq than out of a war that started more than 1400 years ago in Mecca and Medina in which Lepanto and the Persian Gulf were merely battles. Maybe Obama will be the best guy to get a deal for us without having to convert, grow a beard or lose our heads. Now on to universal health care.
