Verizon steps in dog doo-doo with Dare ad

The PETA crowd are foaming at the mouth and straining at the leash (gosh, that's good writing!) over this new LG Dare junkyard-dog spot from Verizon Wireless. Sure, the dogs are chained up—but then, our kind run the planet, so that’s our prerogative. Frankly, they look well-fed, un-abused and generally bark-snarl happy about their situation. Too bad they can’t reach that brain-dead dude who jumps the fence and violates their domain. They’d love to tear a few chunks out of his silly ass. These dogs are cool, not pampered like the posh poodles preening on Greatest American Dog. I wonder if this ad runs during that show. It’s just a matter of time before some stupid teens copy the commercial, hop the fence at a local dump and come face-to-jowl with Rex and Killer. Then the real controversy will begin.

I wish Soylent Green were PETA.

Leave PETA alone. They're trying to stand up for the voiceless. If this was a commercial with a child chained up all vicious and snarling, people would be up in arms. I don't care what you stand up for but stand up for something in this world.

Keeping a dog chained by the neck, usually in virtual isolation, and forcing it to pace the same patch of mud and excrement for years on end -- that's a hideous form of abuse for a social, intelligent, pack animal like a dog. The images Verizon put forth in its commercial just perpetuate the antiquated and barbaric notion that it is appropriate to keep a dog this way. Constant chaining makes dogs aggressive and poses serious threats to people, esp. children. Check out www.mothersagainstdogchaining.org and www.dogsdeservebetter.org.

Because humans "run the planet" means we have an obligation to treat animals with compassion and to lessen their suffering. it does NOT mean we have free rein to do whatever we want to them.

So just because Verizon made an ad about something that happens in real life means everyone should whine and complain because they just happen to touch on something. I can't believe that people are up in arms about this, these dogs are actors.... not actually chained up for years on end...

Shouldn't Peta be mad at junkyard owners for having dogs for protection? Advertising is supposed to bring a reaction; boring, fluffy, worthless ads with puppies and flowers no one takes seriously. There is nothing wrong with fiction, and that is what this ad is. All advertising is fiction that is derived from real life, Peta should go to the source instead of trimming the hedges.

That commercial should be pulled because the concept is horrible. Not because of the dogs.

I'd really like to eat a pitbull right about now. With some ketchup on the side, MMM.

Monica has a pitbull that has made many public appearances with her, including in the video for "Every time tha Beat Drop".

That's just animal cruelty. Being put in a terrible Monica video...PETA, where were you on that one???

You PETA-ites are just knuckle dragging morons. Stay the F out of our affairs. Socialist nutcases.
