Britney teases the masses with VMA ads

Russellbritney MTV's new Video Music Award promos include none other than Ms. Britney Spears, looking remarkably clean, clear-eyed and adorably flirty. Spots here and here. Speculation is rife that Ms. Spears may be up for another comeback attempt at this year's VMAs. After her horrendous performance last year, the specter of another delightful train-wreck really is reason enough to watch. The promos have done their job well, even though MTV refuses to say if Brit's a confirmed act. MTV says of course they'd have Britney back, despite (or probably because of) the fiasco. "Everyone deserves a second or third chance, right?" Van Toffler, president of MTV Networks, told the AP, adding that they're trying to think of ways "every minute of the day" to top last year's Britney opener. I think the only solution is an obvious one: It's Britney Part II, bitch.

MTV has killed music.

This is a horrible idea. No one pays attention to a squeaky-clean, doe-eyed blonde for long. Her audience wants her barefoot, drunk, and overweight (possibly pregnant) again, Camel Light drooping from her lips. She'll never be in the "Best Beach Bodies" section of US Weekly or Star or whatever smut the kids are reading these days. She'll never actually produce interesting music. Nothing else will keep her in the tabloids and thus the public eye. Boo, Britney. What a disappointment you've become. Please redeem yourself with a repeat performance of your last "comeback."

I'm all for celebrities picking themselves up again, but can't they maintain the out-of-control facade?

Have we come full circle on what is cool again? Russel Brand (the d-bag on the left side of the still) looks like the lead who has given up on personal hygiene and is having a bad hair day.
