Cows desperate to become BK hamburgers
Speaking of Burger King, this new BK ad falls flat by failing to address why a cow would be mad at someone for not killing and eating it. That's the kind of relationship I'd want broken if I were the cow. But then, what this guy does with livestock in his private life is none of our business. Of greater concern is whether or not a chicken sandwich that provokes such a violent response in cattle is worth the effort—i.e., hiding out in one's car in a deserted parking lot. Gotta say, Burger King's portrayal of its own food could be a lot more appetizing. —Posted by David Kiefaber |

Isn't this basically just a rip-off of -- oh, excuse me, homage to -- Chick-fil-A's long-running "EAT MOR CHIKIN" campaign?

Not really; Chik-Fil-A has cows encouraging people to eat more chicken, not less.

You are correct, Mr. Kiefaber, when you note that Chick-fil-A's cows are "encouraging people to eat more chicken, not less." But the basic conceit underlying both campaigns -- cows vs. chicken -- is the same. All Burger King did was flip it on its ear -- to a less than satisfying effect. As you pointed out in your original post, the reversal "falls flat by failing to address why a cow would be mad at someone for not killing and eating it." (Shades of Charlie the Tuna.)

I just don't get why BK would concern itself with a dig at Chik-fla-a, a regional market nicher at best.
Or were they so ignorant they didnt see those ads because it flies in the face of an accepted marketing icon. (even in the Northeast, where Chik-Fla-A MAY be in 1 or 2 malls and that's it)
Really the similarities to its opposite message is what makes it ineffective.

Chick-fil-A followed Charlie Tuna by at least 2 decades.
Bumble Bee Tuna did a short lived campaign that had chickens, pigs and cows encouraging people to eat more fish. Also pre chick.
"You are what you eat," said the pig.
The bigger point, The BK spot is not very good on any level.
