PETA asks Ben & Jerry's to use human milk

Benandjerrys_copy

Ah, PETA. Always milking an issue for all it's worth. When it's not putting celebrity breasts in its ads, it's thinking up other ways to conscript mammary glands for the cause. Case in point: It just suggested to Ben & Jerry's that it replace the cow's milk used in its ice cream with human milk. The group probably figured that since Ben & Jerry's is based in Vermont, that it might actually go for it. Well, Vermont can be pretty wacky, but less so than Switzerland, apparently, where a restaurant has actually started buying breast milk from nursing moms to use as a substitute for the some of the cow's milk in its dishes. (Switzerland?! That sounds awfully Swedish to me.) A Ben & Jerry's rep says: "We applaud PETA's novel approach to bringing attention to an issue, but we believe a mother's milk is best used for her child." Even so, if they come out with a Mother's Milkshake flavor anytime soon, I'll pass.

Perhaps someone should ask PETA why they spend money on nonsensical ways to bring attention to themselves and not take care of the animals in their care? To date, they've killed nearly 20,000 pets because it was too expensive to take care of them.

People Eating Tasty Animals

It makes perfect sense. Just think about the non logical way we consume dairy products that come from a cow that produces milk ONLY before and after pregnancy. Now, how is that normal for humans to consume. PETA's point is great, bold and makes perfect sense. It may make you feel guilty and critical at first but over time people will realize that we shouldn't be consuming cow's milk just as we don't consume mother's milk after we age past our newborn stage.

Daily products are also full of hormones, saturated fat, and leads to allergies and heart disease. We except it because the food industries around us bombard us with products full of it. Milk is completely inefficient to produce and greatly contributes to pollution and sickness.

This process is also disrespectful to animals and their own place on this earth. Can you imagine a herd of woman having there breasts pumped to create food products. All earthlings, human and animal, deserve to live a natural life. The cruelty needs to end and compassion needs to begin.

Human Breast Milk or

Cow Breast Milk (including added rBST/rBGH extra hormones that negatively effect humans. Oh and the antibiotics too. Oh and since in America cow breast milk with up to
180,000,000 white blood cells per glass are allowed--we can't forget that PUS! 180Mil pus cells. Got Pus?

I'll go for the organic almond, walnut, or soy milk, please.

Animal lives are worth the same as human lives? In that case, you should probably kill yourself for swatting mosquitoes. You genocidal NAZI.

While I can understand the logic of PETA's suggestion, it's still rather disturbing. There's a reason we stop breast feeding in infancy and frankly, I don't feel like starting it up again.

And Dick, mosquitoes aren't animals, they're insects. On another note, humans *are* animals. (They teach us that is bio1101.) Maybe you should learn the very human traits of using sense and compassion before you start randomly name-calling. Just a friendly suggestion.

Johnson, insects, like humans are a part of the animal KINGDOM.

Do you remember this from 7th grade Biology class:

Kingdom
Phylum
Class
Order
Family
Genus
Species
?????????????????

So insects AND humans are part of the ANIMAL **KINGDOM**.

Insects are part of the Phylum "Arthropoda" and the Class "Insecta".

Humans are part of the Phylum "Chordata" and Class "Mammalia".

There's a lesson in this: before you go correcting someone for the sole purpose of making them feel stupid, at least have the prudence to KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!

As for PETA...they need to find better things to do with their time. Breast milk? Yeah...I see THAT happening.

Um.... Ok, well this is for those that think that human milk would not contain hormones or antibiotics or anything else besides whatever is in milk. As you have all ready stated those toxins and such are in everything that we eat, natural or not. Not to mention the crap we must breath in every day. So until someone finds a way to get rid of the pollution and greed in the world, I suggest PETA spend their resources on more important issues.

"but we believe a mother's milk is best used for her child." So what makes it right to take from a mother that is a cow? I don't get it.

It is always typical that the insect thing comes up in defense of animal cruelty. I too in the past have made those arguments, that's what one does when they feel that their way of life is being threatened. I thought that I was doing the humane thing by not eating meat, but after digging deeper I realize that there is no way I could continue to contribute to taking a mother's milk from her babies. Of course the thought of making cheese or other dairy products from human mother's milk is ridiculous...so is our dependency on another species milk, we are humans not cows, sheep or goats.
