John Lydon's butter commercial is unveiledThe Guardian has posted the Country Life butter commercial starring John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten) that we'd heard was in the works. It's actually quite depressing to see the former Sex Pistol in his bathrobe gushing about his breakfast, but he doesn't care what anyone thinks. "People know I only do things that I want to or that I believe in, and I have to do it my way," Lydon says. "I've never done anything like this before and never thought I would, but this Country Life ad was made for me and I couldn't resist the opportunity." —Posted by Tim Nudd |

"Country Life ad was made for me and I couldn't resist the opportunity" is roughly translates to:
"the money given to me was so enormous, I couldn't wait to have my name linked to the golden colored chemical compound that the Dairy Crest corporation calls butter!"

They've tried to dress it up in a way that brings out his anti-commercial tirade, but it doesn't work. Everything The Sex Pistols did has just been washed down the drain in terms of artistic credibility, in a meaningful way. Not that they were ever artistic. It meant something for 2 and a half decades but now, it is void. Never Mind the Bullocks, Here's the Sex Pistols...just lost it's entire meaning.
