Walking lips sing the praises of Xbox game

This T.A.G. spot for the Xbox 360 music game Lips lasts for only 60 seconds, but that's an awfully long time to watch a pair of animated lips stroll around singing A-Ha's '80s non-classic "Take On Me." Still, it's tough to turn away. The spot's almost hypnotic, if only because the fusion of image and audio are so unexpected and confounding. While watching, I shouted "WTF!" repeatedly. That's me—intense. I've also been known to shout "Take On Me" loudly during work hours. (Hey, drone in the next cube, people who complain to HR don't get invited to my holiday karaoke party!) At least the lips in this ad don't sing "Saved by Zero."

Here's the thing: Jingles are a valid, and often extremely effective, method of advertising. But they only work for top-of-mind sort of products and if the jingle actually gets you to remember some kind of relevant information. SBZ has clearly failed here, but don't forget the many others that have succeeded: http://urbzen.com/2008/11/20/five-dollar-footlong-vs-saved-by-zero/

I agree...the ad is somehow addicting. I just wanted to know where those singing lips were going. However, had I not known this was an ad for Xbox, I definitely would not have figured it out until the end when the logo pops up. Although I'm sure as a college female I am not the intended target, isn't it still important for the audience to be able to identify the product? I mean, what are they selling? The commercial does little to promote a product but manages to entertain. After a few times of seeing it, I'd be sick of it, and still wouldn't know what exact product Xbox was trying to sell with the talking lips.

Something far less puzzling than those lips- the Facebook application for the game. Great use of social interactive.
