Progressive's Flo: I'm not trying to be sexy
Dudes have a thing for Flo, the perky Progressive Insurance saleswoman played by actress Stephanie Courtney. Perhaps it's her retro look or, in the words of one smitten blogger, her "kissable red red lips." In search of answers, ABC television's Atlanta affiliate tracked down the 38-year-old actress, who seems a bit baffled by all the fuss. |

After multiple viewings of the Progressive ads, I was compelled to do a Google search on Progressive Flo. What a delightful series of ads: not insulting, not disgusting, just a well-created character more than competently performed by a pleasant person.
Reading about her was a good thing to better understand her character's persona. I especially like the ad in which she asks the customer: "What am I thinking now?" When the customer says "Tacos!" her "YESSSS!" response just gets to me.
For the people posting disgusting & degrading comments about this actor and the character, shame. Of course, you are entitled to your respective opinions - but, how about less meanness?
Flo and Progressive have hit a home run, in my opinion. They create ads worth watching - a welcome change.

I f***ing hate "Flo" and everything else about progressive commercials. I dive for the remote to mute the tv whenever I hear that unbearably annoying voice of hers. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't on at just about every single commercial break for every channel, but it is and I will forever hate and despise Flo and progressive for ruining much of my tv experience.

My wife still teases me whenever a Progressive commercial comes on since I told her I had a thing for Flo. My favorite right now is the motorcycle one. The last close up in that one drives me nuts.
It must be something even more base than retro hotness, because, I swear to God, every time one of her commercials comes on, my 1 year old grandson stops what he's doing and watches it until it fades to black. Of course, maybe that's because the all-white set makes it look like the beginning of "Yo Gabba Gabba." Oddly enough though, if he's not facing the TV, as soon as he hears her voice, his head whips around.

She is like my old schwinn cruiser. It was too far gone to restore, but someone put a clean coat of primer on it, and new tires, then scrubbed and hid all the rust with either flat black paint or black tape. And the price was right, a lot less than a painted cruiser, or even a new old looking cruiser. I cringe every time a progressive commercial comes on. (Plus, she has a mustache in one of the commercials! It's the eyes. Sex appeal starts with the eyes. The eyes are the windows to the soul and Flo comes across as wide-eyed, honest, humane, non-adversarial and compassionate.
The "Rockabilly" culture that characterizes Flo's manner and appearance is generally regarded as an inferior subculture, which is regularly a source of conflict in dealing with mainstream American Society. Flo's reception is always warm, accepting, non-judgmental, and confident. In any culture, that's very sexy.
