Pro-atheism ads will hit South Carolina nextAtheists are a confident bunch these days. Fresh off their shout-out from Barack Obama, the non-believers are following up high-profile pro-atheism bus campaigns in London and Washington, D.C., with an outdoor effort near Charleston, S.C. The ad, with the headline "Don't believe in God? You are not alone," is scheduled to go up this coming Monday. It's from a group called the Secular Humanists of the Lowcountry, working in tandem with the American Humanist Association. "This billboard is unlike any that has ever appeared in South Carolina," says Herb Silverman, one of the Secular Humanists. "We expect it to generate a mix of reactions from surprise, curiosity, and even uplift." He also surely expects, or at least hopes for, lots of outrage and ensuing publicity. And if his home state's earlier reaction to the "South Carolina is so gay" ads is any indication, he'll get it. |

I can see the mental image in this "open-minded" humanist's mind.
A country bumpkin driving down a dirt road in his old Ford pick-up chewing on some beechnut turns to his wife and says "Jest who in da hell do they think they is mockin' mah religion and such. Mabel, grab yonder telephone and call the Rev. We's got some protestin' ta do."
I bet he even has his shocked response at his disappointment that people may not enjoy having their faith questioned by a stranger. Just as I'm sure he doesn't enjoy being evangelized to.
But hey, these apostles of rationalism are tolerant of others beliefs, as long as they believe the exact same thing they do.
I'm so sick and tired of reading about these "atheism campaign" its so funny that in the effort to appear enlightened and further their cause they've begun relying on the same tactics of the very people they call superstitious.
What's next, door-to-door humanist teams?

Who created those ads? The agency I mean, not the advertiser?

Who was the agency behind the campaign?

Yes, banding together to stop religion is its own religion, therefore defeating the purpose.

I find it odd that they're targeting the Lowcountry of SC. Charleston alone has more church denominations than pretty much anywhere else - that's where it gets the nickname "The Holy City" from. The city as a whole is fairly moderate and tolerant.
If they wanted a reaction, they should have gone up to Greenville or the Upstate. Those folks know how to put the "mental" in "fundamentalism."

As an atheist resident of upstate SC, it's refreshing to see some support. There are an amazing number of Jesus bilboards on the major highways. I never got it. Would you be converted by a bilboard?
