Iggy Pop left with little dignity after U.K. ad
Iggy Pop's "Lust for Life" was used for many years (too many) in ads for Royal Caribbean. Now, the man himself, looking about 106 years old, struts his stuff shirtless in a U.K. spot for Swiftcover auto insurance. (Our sister blog BrandFreak wrote about the ad as well.) Now, Iggy going shirtless on stage at CBGB circa 1973 was cutting edge—perhaps unforgettable. Iggy going shirtless in 2009 in a commercial sets my teeth on edge, and it's unforgettable for all the wrong reasons. The guy looks like he just stepped out of a car crash! One he didn't quite survive. It's actually more unsettling than Johnny Rotten hawking Country Life butter in his bathrobe. They should team up for a tour. Sponsors would line up around the corner, unlike concertgoers, who would surely stay away in droves. |

Actually it's a pretty good ad. Nothing to be embarrassed over and as A. Prinze put it, they have to eat and retire one day too. Stooges guitarist Ron Asheton (RIP) bought his first new car in 2007. You think he was rolling in dough?
I hope to god I look this good at 61.......

What's this ragging on Iggy for? He probably looks better than YOU without a shirt, call it a hint.

best to know history before trying to name drop your way into punk cred, of which you obviously have zero - CBGB in 1973 was a Bowery professional drinker bar, hardly a place where the stooges would play - they hung at Max's at that point - and yea, iggy at 61 no doubt is in better shape than most 30-somethings and up -

Want to learn more about this commercial video. Maybe we'll put some opinion later.

The biggest issue is the base transaction fee, which, as you noted, hammers those (like restaurants) who sell low ticket items. Small businesses who sell such items should try to negotiate that away, but of course, it is tough to negotiate against the big boys. This is a HUGE deal to small businesses. I work with business owners everyday, and the fees on MCS is a big reason why many of them do not have them. This is not to mention the initial setup fees and the terminal fees...very expensive!
