'Times' Weekender ads taken down a notch

Posted on Feb 11 2009

Michael Showalter wrote and directed this amusing parody of those grating, forced-casual, pretentious Weekender commercials for The New York Times. And he got some semi-famous buddies to take part, including Paul Rudd and Michael Ian Black. At the end, the spot advertises 92YTribeca, the new downtown arts venue run by the 92nd Street Y. Via Adverganza.

Not sure why everyone takes such joy in ripping the NYT. Keep bashing this country's newspapers, because we'll all be in trouble when they all dry up. We need independent news sources.

And for all you pinheads who say we can simply get our news from bloggers, I have one question: where do you think they get their info from? That's right, newspapers. Most bloggers simply write a few snarky comments and add embedded text links. Yup, that's real reporting.

You know you can get the same info faster online, right? From, oh, I don't know, the newspapers' website? Lots of times it's even free!
