Liberty Mutual's quirky ad family needs help
Liberty Mutual poses some heavy questions about "doing the right thing" in this latest ad from Hill, Holliday, part of the insurer's ongoing Responsibility Project. I'd like to save the commercial's fictional Marlowe family and everyone else some time—and hopefully head off more sappy spots—and answer them here. 1) Yes, the family should put the grandfather in a nursing home. He's clearly off his nut and probably dangerous. 2) The older brother should absolutely drop out of college and enlist in the Army, not just to save the family some money but also to get a real haircut instead of that half-assed shag. 3) Of course the family should spy on the sister—enlist the April Fool's software worm or that Chinese surveillance software if necessary. She's clearly up to no good, and a Fling in a boutique changing room can't be far off. Most important: get the kid who narrates the spot some professional help. Judging from the costume and pogo-stick antics, he's headed the way of Grandpa. |

Not sure how much I like the commercial. To me a commercial should be entertaining, hammering home such a heavy topic...not sure if that is the best way to garner business.

I feel like I just end up feeling bad for the family. It feels a little like bootleg little ms. sunshine without the happy ending.

I've always wondered, what gives Liberty Mutual the right to preach responsibility and doing the right thing? Are they a responsible company in all facets? Do they always do the right thing for their customers?

I think this commercial is excellent. The point it makes is poignant.

I think the kid is the only one who has any hope! I'd guess the costumes are to escape from the nutty reality, no one seems to let him talk, not sure about the pogo indoors though!

I'd like to sentence the clueless, judgemental little snot-nose MBA's who wrote this commercial abortion to a lifetime in hell, changing the poop-filled diapers of an incontinent old person. In this hell, they will weigh 110 and grandpa will weigh 170, and they'll get to turn him 50 times a day, by themselves, with no help.
Oh, and they'll have to quit their job to do it. Then they'll lose their house, car, and have no money for food.
Then I'd have the really bad stuff start. :)

Hilarious!
I just saw one too many of those commercials and did a search for "I hate the kid from those Liberty Mutual commercials" and landed here. That kid is sooooooooo annoying. Nothing like totally contrived insight into the human soul coming out of the mouth of a grade school kid with a voice like a cheese grader!

I think the kid has perspective as he seems to be the observer of the family. This is something often seen in the youngest child of a family. I think his voice sounds good, you can hear that it resembles his "Dad's" voice.
