Dwight Howard sick of the Kobe/LeBron ads

Kobe Bryant and LeBron James's new NBA playoff-themed ads for Nike (above) and Vitaminwater (below) have sparked a lot of excitement—particularly from Dwight Howard. But not in a good way. In a post on his blog, the Orlando Magic star says it's "really disrespectful that everybody seems to be pulling for LeBron and Kobe to get to the finals. ... It's like nobody is even giving us a shot at winning this series." He signs off by saying, "Aiiight, ya'll I guess I gotta go watch another one of these LeBron and Kobe commercials on TV. Naw, just kiddin." Dwight's got a point, but he should really pay more attention to where his elbows land than who's in what ad. That's the best way to make sure you're in next year's campaign.

I'm not sure what I'm missing - what is the point of this post? Dwight Howard is a big man - aside from Shaq, VERY few of these guys are considered as marketable as their counterparts in the back court. Kids want to be insanely athletic guards - not beasts of the paint. As a basketball fan, it is a bit annoying and hurts the credibility of the NBA with the knowledge that everyone seems to want a Kobe/LeBron final. I don't fault the advertisers for capitalizing off of this obvious assessment, though.

Dwight Howard isn't the only one upset. I sat around a mammoth, 60" flat screen, over the holidays watching the game. Every time this pseudo homosexual Bert and Ernie ad ran we couldn't figure out what the hell they were talking about. The message is confusing. It's such a shame that the hacks at W+K will now just switch over and do lame Howard commercials after Orlando wins. He and the viewers have every right to be pissed.

Such is the treatment of top superstars. When Dwight jumps up a level and is #2 in the league after Lebron he will be receiving the same treatment, and I doubt that he will be complaining.

I don't know if I'm being overly sensitive, but the ads feel a little racist to me.

My condolences to David Stern, as well as to the mass sports media. It would seem that your man-crush is on his way to watching the NBA Championship series from his living room.

Don’t get me wrong, I like LeBron James: he’s a tremendous basketball player, but I am completely over the media whirlwind praising him as the next (or better than) Michael Jordan. Come on guys… really? How many rings does James have? Again, he’s good, really good; he has the potential to be the best ever, but at this moment he is no where near Jordan. Let the man play, and let the future play out.

I love watching the Cavaliers go down 3-1, and yet still during every commercial break see three out of five commercials hailing Kobe and LeBron as the national championship match-up. What in the world are Nike and Vitamin Water going to do when LeBron is eliminated, and all of those “NBA Champion LeBron James” commercials (which you know have already been filmed) are essentially worthless?
