'Ice Cream and Cake' tests limits of sanity

Say what you will about this brain-drilling new ad for Baskin-Robbins, but you have to be impressed by its ability to mention "ice cream and cake" 16 times in a 15-second spot. If the tune sounds familiar, that's because it's "the other song" by The Buckwheat Boyz, who penned the legendary Internet anthem "Peanut Butter Jelly Time." This is definitely one of those polarizing ads, with people either loving it enough to make it a ringtone or hating it enough to shoot their screens.

Funny, "brain-drilling" is such an apt description...but it does seem to suit this spot. Hope it doesn't start a trend, tho, lol.

I remember when Peanut Butter Jelly Time came out and a friend of mine said, "That's an old song! We used to sing it high school! The next part is 'ice cream and cake! ice cream and cake!'". And to think I thought she was crazy at the time.

I sense another "Nannerpuss" from this.

The visuals in the video, and the voice talent, are very reminiscent of Nick Jr's "Yo Gabba Gabba." I would be curious to know what stations and time slots this is running in.

Whether people are singing the tune or loathing the ad, they're at least talking about it - so the advertisers have done their job.

Perhaps the most annoying song that for some reason I absolutely love. It makes me think of being a kid and how terribly exciting the prospect of ice cream and cake was. It evokes youth, being carefree and without concern about calories and the glycemic index.

The commercial is for ice cream and cake, items we associate with fun and being a kid, then well done.

I did not know the song before the commercial but man, I laughed my ASS off and stop everything when that commercial comes on!
