Isn't it just wonderful to wake up Canadian?

Happy Canada Day to our northerly inclined readers. To celebrate, here's an ad that the Canadian government put together this spring to alert non-Canadians that one day (April 17, actually), they might wake up Canadian, too. It's a stirring commercial. Just ignore the excessively long URL at the end, and the confusion over what a forward-slash looks like.

I like that even the Canadian government reduces being Canadian to hockey skates, tukes, moose and Mounties.

I think that (/) is a forward slash - the backslash is this one \. Right?

But less than and greater than always gave me trouble, too.

I can say for a fact that / is a forward slash. Why make a long URL longer by saying "Forward?" I don't know. But it's correct. Slash would suffice, though, as backslashes are not used in web addresses.

The easy way to remember it is by thinking of it as a person leaning. If it leans forward, it's a forward slash.

That is like my worst nightmare.

But notice that Canadian Flag---a clear rip off of the NY City Parks Department logo
