Creators of anti-Droid ad unmasked (sort of)

It turns out pros are behind the Apple-fanboy spoof ad (above) of the Verizon Droid ad spoofing Apple ads. The Wall Street Journal's Digits blog has an interview with the creators, described as staffers from a "Boston-area ad agency." The creative director, "Shawn" (they declined to give their last names), doesn't go out of his way to refute the notion that creative directors can sometimes act like jerks. He says the most controversial line in the spot, "iDon't buy brands who bash other brands," is pointed out as being hypocritical within the ad itself (by showing a Mac and PC clip and the line, "i… oops"). "Apparently even in fake advertising, you can go wrong estimating the intelligence of your audience," Shawn says. Ouch. The question remains: Which Boston-area ad agency is it?

if they wanted to look smart they wouldn't be bashing what will be the leading phone (os at least) by the end of 2010.

iphone- 1 phone 1 carrier
driod- 30-50 different handsets on every carrier by eoy 2010

but go ahead, bash away at what will be the industry leader by every metric. i'm sure people will be knocking down their doors for that sort of brilliant strategic thinking.

fanboys are idiots.

True. "I don't buy brands who bash other brands". Well, is not bashing what apple has been doing for years now ?

But fanboyism is blind: Apple can bash, but others can't.

This Steve J. is an evil genius. Look what he did to those kids' brains...

@Oliv, did you watch the commercial? Did you read the post? Are you an idiot? It clearly indicated and was inferred that Mac bashes PC, that's why it says "i...oops"

sigh.

I see what you did there, blaming the audience’s lack of intelligence for your failure to communicate. Brilliant!

"iDon't buy brands who bash other brands" ... Oops? Hypocrisy isn't actually funny. Negative ads have been the Apple mainstay for some time as all know. Using bogus frontmen to battle Android will have little impact. I work on Macs, PC's and even Linux ... but Apple's insistance on control is the reason that iPhone can only be used on 1 fairly lame network. Macoholics, wake up!
