Drive someone nuts with Gap holiday cheerThe holiday season keeps moving up. We're already seeing the rollout of holiday "viral" campaigns. Gap is out with an early contender for most annoying with "Cheer Factory," courtesy of Crispin Porter + Bogusky. It features Gap-clad cheerleaders doing chants like "Good luck with that bird" and "You office party hardied." You can, of course, personalize the cheer for an unlucky friend. The cheerleaders will hold up letters in the friend's name. Recipients are sure to hold this against you for years to come. |

What drove me nuts was waiting for the site to load, and I've got a fast connection.

There's a thin line between stupid and clever.

OK, I admit I'm an overgrown 12-year-old but so far I've had them spell out "poop" and "douche." So while it is a dumb ad, there is subversive (and adolescent) fun to had.

more stupid from the kings and queens of stupid.

If people mock it, it still worked. And people will be mocking Cheer Factory this holiday season.

Annoying fun in a bad taste kind of way. But way too long! Almost lost me...and the best part is the personalization.

Dammit! I hate it that hal incandenza is right--the campaign worked if people are mocking it. I just discovered this site after seeing countless Gap ads during primetime NBC tonight & was determined to find other people already disgusted with this ad campaign...Maybe I should just let it go if I really want to hate the Gap.

If people mock it, the campaign still worked? That makes as much sense as going back to your wife-beating husband because, hey, at least he's paying attention to me.
The site is pretty and snappy, but I just can't believe how lightweight this thing is. Remember Fallon's Brawny Man site? That was from the internet stoneage and yet infinitely smarter and more engaging.

I got so bored with how long the cheer took. Speed it up

CP+B is smarter than this. They have to be embarrassed about it, no?

I liked it! I liked the skill of the dancers and the simplicity of the theme. I think it will do well.

OMG how cheesy is this?! the CP+B magic is fading fast.

It is almost the holiday season and I'm sure that many more ads will come out and try to be the hit viral video of the year or of the season. This ad is a perfect example of a viral video: chessy and catchy. Even if people make fun of it or mock it, it still gets the word of Gap out and that's all the company really wants to do right?

well produced - reminds me of Chiat's Go Meat for Hilshire Farms. I'd call this the high point of CPBs year.

there is something so incredibly grating about these cheers. i have a violently negative reaction to the ads and the website. and not in a good way.

It may annoy people, but this ad is effective because it's memorable. It reminds me of the khaki commercials Gap did years ago.
