Italian child-abuse PSAs truly heartbreakingMcCann Milan is behind these eerie new ads for Casa do Menor in Italy. The print ad (see the full version here) shows a girl covered in hands—a favored image in lots of PSA campaigns lately, serving as a metaphor for everything from AIDS to Parkinson's disease. The companion spot below is truly harrowing, showing a boy struggling for normalcy as he carries a dying version of himself through his daily life. The top one is bad. All of these tasteless scam ads are as offensive as the thing they're supposed to prevent. Why resort to shock value?

The bottom ad made me snicker uncontrollably. Was it about zombies? It was about what? Oh. Sorry.

I wouldn't have known this was about sexual abuse if it didn't say it at the end. Could definately made a better ad about the topic. Other than making the sexual abused kid look like they were dead.

I think the top ad delivers the message just fine. It's wierd, and a little disturbing, but the message is still received. All the hands are pointing up towards the child's face, which directs the reader's view to a sad facade that many in the audience may relate to.
I agree that the bottom ad can remind viewers of zombie horror themes and thus small laughter may ensue, but again, the message that needs to be delivered, is.
It is heartbreaking. It's a horrible thing to happen to a child. I wouldn't care if it was the worst ad in the world (which it isn't), the information or message still needs to be told to a large audience.
