Not everyone is smiling at Kodak's new ads

Dave Bry at The Awl is unnerved by this Kodak commercial, part of Ogilvy's new "It's time to smile" campaign. For Bry, it isn't time to smile. At most, it's time to laugh uneasily. He wonders: "Is the grandma supposed to be a ghost? Are they both ghosts? Is this a commercial about the victims of some grisly, long-ago mass-murder coming back to haunt the living?" All that's missing is a dream sequence involving Kodak's dual-cyclops dog.

Ghosts? All I see is a granddaughter and grandmother (great-grandmother?) who are brought closer together through a book that the girl has made? Sharing closes the gap between generations and connects them.
It's sweet the way a little girl engages a senior, who is likely marginalized and a bit lonely.
I don't get the ghost vibe at all.

I don't get the 'Mr. Grizzly' line. Is that a PedoBear reference or something?

It's a pretty lame spot. I'm guessing whomever the idiot was who executed it creatively didn't understand the halo lighting and death like twinkly music who provoke ghosts, but I can stretch and see that.

Just a simple minded spot of saying it brings a granddaughter and grandmother together. Couch shrinks... Like I said, It's a pretty lame spot.

I would never think that the grandma or the little girl were supposed to be ghost when seeing this ad. I'm not seeing it..and I don't know why Kodak would create an ad that included ghost in it.

the book is from kodak and can be made, the couch is large in the beginning then in the end the grandmother and the little girl are closer. No ghosts, The kodak book brought the little girl and grandmother TOGETHER, as you see they not only sat closer but bonded

It's a good spot. Better than most.

And whoever sees ghosts is just bullshitting.

This is so bad. Sure it isn't something somebody did on spec?
